The aim of this study was to explain the external music in Ahmad Azizi’s lyrics. To this aim, all the lyrics of this contemporary poet were reviewed from the view point of prosodic rhythms in frequency mode. First of all, it was clarified how much the poet used the poetical measures and different rhythms, and then, Shafiei Kadkani and Khanlari’s classifications were used to review the quality of the rhythms and to determine whether they were/were not in vogue. The methodology used in this survey was descriptive-analytical one. Our findings showed that Azizi’s lyrics had rhythm diversity and though they were often composed in common Persian rhythms, the poet used unusual rhythms as well. In Azizi’s lyrics, Joibari rhythms were found more than Khizabi rhythms.
