Chronogram is one of the poetic elements, which indicates the use of words to record the date
of an event. This technique in Persian literature is a new subject with no detailed description.
However, special attention has been paid to the subject and the authors and researchers of
chronograms have made efforts to gather evidence, solve and find a historical event date, or
sometimes correct it. Recently, among the old Persian works and texts, a treatise of an unknown
poet in the 10th century, Halimi Shirvani, entitled "Ghavaed al-Tarikh (Rules of History)" has
been corrected and published as part of a doctoral thesis which is the result of several years
of research on chronograms. The introduction section of the treatise explains the author's
motivation for making the chronograph, the background of the chronogram, the method of
finding the dates, the sources used by the author, and, more importantly, the methods and styles
of making a chronograph. Nevertheless, there are also insignificant examples with problems in
rhythm and rhyme. The present study investigates the new findings of Halimi Shirvani's work in
chronogram and its types. Halimi had more than 14 styles in chronogram, each of which can be
unique or unrivaled in its kind. Among the 14 styles, using enigma in various ways demonstrates
the skill and ability of Halimi in making chronographs.
